China has made tremendous progress in terms of medical education. Due to the Chinese government’s continuous investment for improving the quality of universities, medical education in China has reached stellar heights. Each year, a number of students from India flock to China to pursue MBBS. The medical universities in China offer high-quality education at a much lower rate when compared to other countries all over the world. The facilities provided to the students are comparable to those in European and other developed countries.
Medical Council of India (MCI) recognizes around 49 medical universities from China. The students pursuing their MBBS from China are taught Mandarin from the very first year of the course which helps them interact easily with the patients. The courses are taught in English. Some of the medical universities also offer internships. Chinese medical universities are also recognized by the World Health Organization, UNICEF and FAIMER.
The following are the advantages of studying MBBS in China:
The Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) published the ‘Interim Provisions for Quality Control Standards in Undergraduate Medical Education’ in English for international students in 2007. This was done to guarantee a high-quality and standardized educational experience for international students.
The following are the reasons why China has become a hot destination for MBBS:
MBBS course duration in China is 5 years. After this, the student can come to India and sit for the MCI screening test known as the FMGE and do his or her internship in India or can sit for any other global exams such as the USMLE (USA) or the PLAB (UK).
Alternatively, a student can do his or her internship in China and then return to India and give the MCI screening test. The internship done in China is recognized by India and hence the student won’t need to do his or her internship again from India as well.
The eligibility criteria for an Indian student to get admission to study MBBS in China are as follows:
Documents needed:
An Indian student can choose the following paths upon successfully completing medical education from China:
Path 1: The most common option for a student is to come back to India and clear the MCI screening test. After clearing the test, a student can apply for a medical license and can practice medicine in India. Alternatively, the student can also give his or her PG entrance exam for studying in India.
Path 2: As a student you can opt for an MD / MS in USA and one of the biggest advantages in this, is that you do not have to write the MCI screening test after completing your MBBS in China. It basically means that, upon completion of MBBS in China, you can go for a PG in USA without the need to clear the MCI screening Test. The Post-graduation in medicine from the USA would be valid highly valued in India.
You can apply for the USMLE Step 1 in case you want to practice in the United States. USMLE has 3 steps and those who clear all the 3 steps and get Permanent Registration from the medical council of the USA can practice there.
